The Festive Fourth

July Fourth. The day chosen to remember the signing of the Decleration of Independence by the Continental Congress. John Adams said it should be “solemnized with Pomp and Parade, with Shews, Games, Sports, Guns, Bells, Bonfires and Illuminations from one End of this Continent to the other from this Time forward forever more.” Adams wrote, “Shews”

Some of Saratoga Springs events to celebrate include the Firecracker4 5k race, the Parade down Broadway, the fireworks at night, and more.

In 1776, the signing of the Declaration of Independence was the moment when a group of farmers, metalworkers, printers and politicians committed to a war of independence against the single greatest military power in the world at the time.

And in 1777, The Battle of Saratoga not only blunted a British plan to divide the colonies into two more easily conquered halves, it also demonstrated the Continental armies capacity for victory to the world, leading to the alliance that made victory possible.

There’s a reason we take the American revolution seriously here in Saratoga.
