“A loss of sight, never a loss of vision” is the slogan of Camp Abilities, a week long sport centered camp for children with impaired vision or full blindness. This is the second year that the Saratoga Lions have hosted the event, with a little more help from other community organizations. The Firecracker4 contributed the tandem bikes the campers could ride. Some activities were funded by the Christopher Dailey Foundation, a camper was sponsored by Soroptomist Saratoga, and the Mom Prom also kicked in their support.
Here’s another story. Someone won a gift certificate for a new bike from Blue Sky bicycles at a YMCA event. This winner walked into the shop and told the clerk, “I’m not a biker, do you know about any organization or event that could use this?” This is the story behind one of the individual bikes the campers with some sight could ride.
After all the support came together, Skidmore opened it’s doors to the camp from August 9th through the 15th. Like last year, the program included Track, Tandem Bike, Beep Baseball, Judo, Stand up paddleboard - though on Saratoga Lake this year - Swiming and Horseback Riding. This year the Lions were also able to add an ice skating program, similar to the Saratoga Stars program they host during the school year.
